In the Northern Hemisphere, we’re gently gliding into Autumn. Even as we grasp for the final, juiciest tomatoes and jumbo-sized ears of sweet corn, seasonal shifts are beginning to show themselves. Changes that beckon, challenge and encourage us to align with the prompts of these wise, perennial cycles.

NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE, THERE IS MOST CERTAINLY A CHANGE HAPPENING, EVEN IF THE ADJUSTMENTS ARE NEARLY UNDETECTABLE.

Here where I live in Colorado, the shifts are deliciously nuanced, though notable. Already, our morning and afternoon light is different. Softer, less piercing. The evening air is cooler and smells more like the musky scent of wet dirt instead of dry heat tinged with an electric buzz. The birds are singing different songs at different times. And a beloved neighborhood owl has decided to start periodically hooting from a nearby pine tree in the twilight hours.

All of this wonderful eco-intel has prompted this month’s theme: Subtlety & Nuance.

I think we might all be able to agree that we’ve been surround of late by macro-sized events. Turns in history that bellow rather than whisper, shake us from core to foundation, threaten to push us off center with a blindingly-quick wrench and twist. It’s easy to lose sight of nuance and subtlety in these conditions; they can quickly become overshadowed by Goliath moments.

As such, it seems a perfect time to draw our attention to the tendrils of detail and gradation that run through that macro grid. Remind ourselves that subtle shades and tones bring more dimension to the larger picture.

FINE DISTINCTIONS NATURALLY EXPANDING OUR UNDERSTANDING, TOLERANCE, RESOURCEFULNESS, AND SELF-CALIBRATION. ATTUNEMENT TO INTRICACY HELPING US TO BE INFINITELY MORE AGILE AND SKILLFUL WHEN RIDING BIG WAVES.

As you might guess, I’m going to invite you specifically to notice the subtle seasonal changes that are arriving on your doorstep, wherever you are. To orient your senses in the direction of those cues, be curious about what they can teach you and how they might provide ballast during these times. Because Nature has been cycling for eons and knows a thing or two about weathering transformation.

Here in Colorado, I’ll be tuning in to a slightly slower pacing, shorter days beckoning us to start powering down from the hot burn of summer, letting the engines cool before the next big seasonal turn. Taking the diffusion of light as motivation to diffuse excess internal energy, the arrival of Owl as invitation for new ceremony.

Join me, won’t you? Even if you’re still burning hot or beginning to bundle, we’re moving along the same arc … together.
